Anthony is a small city located in Dona Ana County in southwest New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the population was 7,904 residents. It is situated south of Las Cruces on the New Mexico-Texas line in the Upper Mesilla Valley along Interstate 10. The interstate runs north and south through the town, and the I-25/I-10 junction is approximately 20 miles north. The town of Anthony is divided by an invisible state line and therefore is known to locals as "the best little town in two states." Rural and peaceful, the community of Anthony offers friendly residents and wonderful scenic views of the mountainous desert, horse ranches, cotton fields and pecan orchards. Yet the rich cultural amenities of the city, such as opera, theater, concerts and nightlife are within a 20-minute drive. Anthony has long been known as the gateway of trade routes in the Southwest. The Butterfield Trail passed just north of Anthony and the Camino Real Trade Route from Mexico City passed directly through the community. Today, Burlington Northern Santa Fe runs through Anthony and with the Mexican border just 25 miles south, it's the perfect location for companies who are interested in nationwide or international trade.

Anthony Weather & Climate

Southern New Mexico has an arid, subtropical climate. Winters alternate between cool and windy weather following trough and frontal passages, with warm, sunny periods in between. Light frosts occur many nights. Spring months are warm and can be windy. Short-lived dust storms are possible. Summers begin with hot weather, with some extended periods of over 100 °F (38 °C) weather not uncommon, while the latter half of the summer seeing increased humidity and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, with slightly lower daytime temperatures. The weather cools down quickly in the Autumn and precipitation decreases. Most winter moisture is in the form of rain. Though some light snow falls most winters, it stays on the ground for a few hours, at most.
