Eagle-Nest
is a village located in Colfax County in the northeast portion of New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the population was 306 residents. Eagle Next is situated on the Enchanted Circle Highway and is a growing ski-resort village, much like the nearby communities of Red River and Angel Fire. The village of Eagle Nest lies in the shadow of Wheeler Park and the headwaters of the Cimarron River watershed are at Eagle Nest Lake. It's known as a laid-back mountain town and is a great place to relax and get away from it all - leave the noise and headaches of city life behind. The Main Street of Eagle Nest is less than a mile long and is lined with old-fashioned street lights, park benches and flowerboxes. Shops carry locally-made arts and crafts, sculpture, Indian jewelry, antiques, pottery, candies and fudge, tee shirts and more. The village is situated on the north shore of magnificent Eagle Nest Lake, which boasts some 2,200 acres for trophy fishing. Other activities in the area include ice fishing in winter, hunting and camping, hiking, snowmobiling, cross-county and alpine skiing, sledding and more. Eagle Nest is also adjacent to Carson National Forest and only 30 miles east of the city of Taos.

Eagle Nest Weather & Climate
Northern New Mexico enjoys an arid climate with four seasons. Although the seasons are distinct they are nonetheless mild compared to the extremes of other areas of the U.S. In areas of higher elevation, the sheltering effect of the valley is gone and therefore the region is noticeably cooler and slightly wetter. The mountains and highlands create a "rain shadow" effect, due to the drying of descending air movements, and usually receive very little rain or snow. Average precipitation is 8-9 inches (216 mm) per year.
