Eldorado-at-Santa-Fe
is a census-designated place in Santa Fe County with a population of approximately 5,800. It is part of the Santa Fe metropolitan area. Locals call the community Eldorado, after a former train station on the Santa Fe Railroad. It is the largest unincorporated community in the state. It's a popular place due to its easy access to Santa Fe, large open spaces and attractive setting and reasonable prices. The Santa Fe area has long been a center for the arts, with artists traveling here for decades to capture the natural beauty of the landscape, the flora and fauna. One of the most well-known artists who lived in the area was Georgia O'Keeffe. The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe is devoted to exhibitions of her work and associated artists or related themes. The area now ranks as the nation's third largest art market. The Eldorado Arts and Crafts Association holds an annual studio tour each year, in mid-May. On sale are traditional paintings, ceramics, textiles, photography, sculpture, jewelry and more. In Santa Fe, there also are more than a dozen major museums showcasing an array of art, culture and history. Outdoor recreation in the Eldorado at Santa Fe area includes skiing, ice skating, hiking, river rafting, horseback riding, fly-fishing and hot-air ballooning. The Santa Fe Southern Railway passes through the center of Eldorado, and excursion train rides are offered to the city of Santa Fe.

North Central New Mexico has a climate that is usually sunny and dry with relatively low humidity. Brilliant sunshine defines the region, averaging more than 300 days a year. At times there are periods of mid and high-level cloudiness. Extended cloudiness is rare. The region has four distinct seasons, but the heat and cold are mild compared to the extremes that occur more commonly in other parts of the country. Occasional snowfalls are possible but usually melts by mid-afternoon. Spring is unsettled, often windy and cool, but is the driest time of the year. Summer daytime highs range from the upper 80s to the upper 90's, and low 60s to low 70s overnight. North Central New Mexico's climate is classified as arid.
